Why should I buy crop insurance if the spring price will be low?

RESPONSE: Revenue protection is a very popular crop insurance policy today.  It not only pays on price fluctuations, but yield losses as well.  In 2012,  Wisconsin suffered a drought, causing a shortage of crops and prices to handsomely increase.  In the case of an insured having a revenue crop insurance policy, they not only had a yield loss, but were paid at a very high fall harvest price, set by the Chicago Board of Trade.  This was a great benefit to the farms.

As claims are being finalized from the 2014 crop, we are all familiar that crops were overall good, and commodity prices fell in the fall.  HOWEVER, those with a yield loss were paid based on the spring price of $4.62 for corn and $11.36 for beans.

If we knew what our spring and summer were going to bring, we’d be the most popular business in town, but we don’t.  Keep in mind that crop insurance can still work in multiple scenarios for you. We are here to make sure your policy is right for you.

Cranberry Harvest Underway https://vinevest.com/cranberry-harvest-underway/ Thu, 10 Oct 2013 19:14:11 +0000 https://vinevest.com/?p=336 Wisconsin is the leading state for cranberry production and October means harvest is in full swing!  Although many growers are reporting lighter color than normal for this dark crimson berry, the 2013 year is expected to be one of the largest the state has seen.  25 years ago, the first policy sold at Vine Vest, was to a local cranberry marsh!  We are proud to continue our leadership in the cranberry industry!

2013 Harvest Letter to Growers https://vinevest.com/2013-harvest-letter-to-growers/ Tue, 13 Aug 2013 17:56:39 +0000 https://vinevest.com/?p=274 Following is a list of crop insurance items that come up at this time of year, which we have learned, from experience, can lead to questions.

Wheat and Forage Production MP Insurance deadline to purchase change or cancel for 2014

If you need MPCI coverage on either of these crops for 2014 or want to make changes to your current wheat or forage MPCI policy for next year, the final date to do so is September 30th, 2013.  A quick call (800-833-2602) to us can begin that process.

2013 Premium Billing Due Date

You will be receiving shortly your corn, soybean and other spring crop premium bills over the next few weeks.  These premiums are to be paid by Sept 30th, 2013.  Interest will accrue and be charged on unpaid account balances beginning October 1st. If you have questions regarding your bill, feel free to call our office at 1-800-833-2602.

Chopping corn or harvesting corn for high moisture

Again, if you plan to chop some corn for silage or harvest corn for high moisture corn, call us to file a claim as you will need an appraisal of the crop in the field. Your corn is insured as “grain”. Using acres for another use such as silage or HM corn is fine, but needs a field appraisal.

Your Crop Insurance Company https://vinevest.com/your-crop-insurance-company/ Mon, 08 Jul 2013 14:52:58 +0000 https://vinevest.com/?p=1 Summer is here!  Well, spring was long, but as we drive the roads of Wisconsin we are seeing some great fields representing a lot of hard work.  Although some may say, “all we have to do is wait till harvest”, that’s certainly not the case here in the office.  We are in the midst of collecting growers acreage reports for spring crops and communicating with many of the spring prevent plant claims that were filed due to excessive moisture this year.

It seems every year the farmer is challenged with more and more adversity with the weather, grain markets and numerous details for their operations.  It is our goal to post current and relevant information as reminders and education tools to help you through each growing season.

Enjoy the day!
